Just Cause

Going somewhere?

Going somewhere?

The icing on the cake is that Rico is equipped with a grappling gun that allows him to latch onto any passing vehicle (even planes and copters), open the parachute, and it'll be and an easy course to wherever that vehicle is going. It's a great way to get around because Rico can also commandeer any nearby vehicle, even while he is in the air. Cars, bikes, buggies, trucks, helicopters, planes, and boats - there is no shortage of vehicles for Rico to use, and it's all there for the taking.

The Scope of Things...
Rico will have access to many vehicles- all in many different makes and models.

The sheer capacity of things to do in San Esperito is enormous and usually overwhelming. There is one overarching map that tells you everything you need to know, but sifting through the icons can be a hassle. Only after some solid play time will you be able to distinguish between story and political missions, as well as safe houses and other areas of interest.

The missions themselves fall into the repetitive and generic "kill this person" or "drive from point A to B" range, but there is a fun bit of variety offered to keep you entertained, like torching a bunch of cocoa fields a la San Andreas' pot burning excursion.

Like GTA, Just Cause cycles in 24-hour style.

The game has a good balance in difficulty. Missions can be oft confusing and difficult, but it is steadied by Rico's near invincibility. Bullets do little damage to Rico--you'll really only have to look out for grenades and large explosions--and frequent health pack and weapon pickups keep things passable.

There are lots of different weapons, but you'll only be able to hold a couple firearms at once, which is actually okay because switching weapons is quite annoying because there is no wrap around from the last to the first and vice versa.
