All the Whos down in Whoville are prepping for Christmas, but the nasty old Grinch can't mind his own business. So it's down off his mountain, egg launcher in hand, to crush the Whos' joy all over the land. With its huge variety of missions, gadgets, and different things to gather and do, The Grinch tries to mimic N64 3D-platformer triumphs like Mario or Banjo-Tooie? but the whole thing reeks with the rotten-egg stench of a movie tie-in rush job. The levels, which include Whoville, a Forest, a Lake, and the Who Dumps, are non-descript and ugly, making it easy to lose your bearings - and since most of your missions involve wandering around looking for X amount of object Y to smash, you'll spend a great deal of time wandering in circles. Solid concept? shaky execution.
Graphics: 2.5
Almost as ugly as the Mean One himself. The bland, repetitive and boring-looking levels are plagued by clipping and washed-out textures that disappear when they get more than four feet away.
Sounds: 4.0
A really solid orchestral musical score, decent sound effects, and half-competent voice actors that try to kinda sorta occassionally rhyme? in a hastily written sort of way.
Control: 2.5
It's easy to get at the variety of commands at your disposal, but The Grinch's walk is loose, his jumps are unresponsive, and his attack attempts generally leads to some sort of confusing disaster.
FunFactor: 2.5
With its enormous heap of missions, weapons, and goals, The Grinch gives you the option to do a whole lot of different things? most of which you either won't want to do or, worse, won't know how to do. While a scant few of The Grinch's tasks are fun, the rest are either boring, frustrating, or both.
