Super Bust A Move for the PS2 is the latest in a popular and fun lineup of bubble breaking action puzzle games. While there's not a whole lot of new features, the gameplay is still fun: if it ain't broke, then don't fix it.

Puzzle Revenge!
Three game modes round out Super Bust A Move for the PS2. CPU Battle lets one player compete against the CPU in a head to head competition with two different levels of difficulty. Two players can duke it out in 2P Battle with three different levels including a Chain Reaction setting that maxes out the bubble-popping combos. The 1P Puzzle mode has three sub-modes: Training, Normal, and Classic. Training features a set of five easy puzzles to get you started, Normal has the most "new" gameplay features that are mainly new kinds of bubbles. Mini bubbles that you can sneak into tight spots more easily, iron bubbles that pop any bubbles in their path, and moving walls that effect your shot direction are just a few examples. Overall, the new touches to gameplay make the game a little more complex, but that's the point, and it's still fun. Classic mode has the standard combos and chains that most Puzzle Bobble/ Bust A Move fans are familiar with.
Bust Some Tunes
Super Bust A Move has many familiar characters returning to the scene, but there are some new faces in the mix as well. Each character has their own combo sets that you can choose from in addition to their own unique drop patterns. In addition, two player games let you set your handicap on the character select screen.
The graphics are a really sweet combination of pastel hues and bright colors that make the game fun to look at as well as play. Character animations are well done, and some of the background art is very cool. The audio soundtrack is a good match for the mood the graphics set; light and boppin' tunes accompany the pops and clangs of the gameplay.
Super Bust A Move for the PS2 is the best puzzle game for the system almost by default. Fantavision has prettier graphics, but the time-tested gameplay in Bust A Move makes the switch to the PS2 nicely. It's not a must have, but Taito's new Super Bust A Move has a lot of challenge for gamers who want an action puzzle game.
