Banjo-Tooie

The bird and the bear return in Banjo-Tooie, a 3D platform-style action/adventure game that's bigger and better than ever.

Banjo and Kazooie made some noise with their last Nintendo 64 adventure. Now the bird and the bear return in Banjo-Tooie, a 3D platform-style action/adventure game that's bigger and better than ever. This topnotch game's in "Rare" form and Nintendo's pet developer really brings out the animal in this version, too. Like its predecessor, Banjo-Tooie's a solidly crafted cart that encompasses nine huge worlds and dishes out diverse gameplay. In fact, you might complain that the game's so large, you lose your way and forget what you're supposed to do. Everything from brain-battering puzzles to finger-frying first-person egg-combat gets thrown at you and you play multiple characters, too. But at least the deft controls handle all the action with ease. The two animal heroes, Banjo and Kazooie, may be a little too cartoony for some tastes, but if you can get past the kooky kiddy-land look you'll find Banjo-Tooie a top-quality cart that's worth every penny.

GRAPHICS
This game's loaded with a ton of eye-candy packed into nine humongous worlds. You get every view imaginable from aerial looks to first-person combat, and the game cam keeps tabs on 'em all.

SOUND
The music's cute and kind of goofy at times. The audio effects are on target, and the mumbo jumbo the characters speak is kind of catchy.

CONTROLS
The controls do a masterful job of handling a wide variety of gameplay including first-person action, flying, kickball, and even tip-toeing. The sensitive joystick, however, sometimes makes moving with precision in high and tight spaces a challenge.

FUNFACTOR
There's an awesome amount of gameplay packed into this cart. The landscapes are so huge it's a challenge to remember everything you need to do. If you're the compulsive type who likes to find everything single item in a game, this one's for you.
