Powerless Racing
Imagine if you will: You're straddling a powerful four-wheeled machine, racing at upwards of 60 miles per hour on off-road tracks that will have you catching mad air and leaning into twisting curves. Imagine how fun that would be. Now, try to conceive of a way in which that wouldn't be enjoyable in the least, and you have an accurate picture of Acclaim's latest racing extravaganza.
ATV's overall level of quality is astounding. Its graphics rank up there with Test Drive Off Road for the worst imaginable, and its sound is remarkable for its mediocrity. On snow tracks, pastel colors dither so badly that the entire course looks like an oil spill (check out the screenshot for the second ProTip, below), with pastel rainbow colors in giant strips on the landscape. The low framerate and horrid camera (the course is often completely blocked from view by trees or other obstacles) also make sure you don't enjoy a single moment of the racing. A generic hip-hop-like soundtrack hums behind the monotonous engine noises. The controls, simple as they are, will have you swerving all over the uninspired tracks as you try and figure out where you're supposed to go next. Finally, ATV's level of challenge could use some work, as you'll probably finish in first place the first time (and every subsequent time) you play the game.
Must? Turn? PlayStation? Off
Sane gamers with a sense of self-preservation will want to avoid this title altogether. Unless you're looking for something to give to your hateful little sister, or you have a particular fascination with awful games, you'll want to steer clear of this race.
