Alundra 2

Sequels can be quite disappointing, especially when its predecessor managed to score big with players, but, alas, such is not the case here. Alundra 2 stands on its own with awesome gameplay, a huge and engaging cast of characters, and hours of brain-frying puzzle solving fun.

Sequels can be quite disappointing, especially when its predecessor managed to score big with players, but, alas, such is not the case here. Alundra 2 stands on its own with awesome gameplay, a huge and engaging cast of characters, and hours of brain-frying puzzle solving fun.

Our Man Flint
The great Kingdom of Varuna has been turned upside down. A literal wooden dummy has replaced the king, people have turned into monsters, and shady characters are running amok. Playing as Flint, pirate-hunter and wanted man, you must aid spunky Princess Alexia in her fight against evil Baron Diaz and the mysterious sorcerer known only as Mephisto.

As you take on the role of the hero, Flint, you better be prepared for the huge adventure that lies ahead. You will have to explore several unique locations such as towns, underground caverns, sunken ships, volcanoes, and much more. Along with some serious fighting, you will be solving a variety of puzzles that will involve the pushing and pulling of blocks, manipulating enemies into triggering switches for you, and figuring out what to do with the mysterious items you find. The fun won't stop there, however, because Alundra 2 has ten addictive mini-games, such as darts (which is particularly addictive) and racing (on foot or by cart), that are sure to keep you coming back for more. These mini-games are finely woven into the story and allow you to obtain some rare items.

As the story unfolds, Flint will acquire magical powers, and will also be able to summon Elemental forces such as wind, water, fire, and earth. These forces will not only aid in battle, but are also crucial to solving puzzles, adding a whole new level of strategy to an already complex game.

The battles happen in real time, and couldn't be more entertaining. Mean bosses await you at the end of each area, with some powerful attacks that will keep you on your toes. Thankfully, they are not impossibly hard to beat. Once you get killed a few times you will be able to figure out their pattern and beat them at their own game. Contrary to most games of this genre, status such as HP and MP do not go up as you slash and hack your way through the landscape; rather, they must be earned or purchased.

Easy on the Senses
The world of Alundra 2 is indeed a beautiful one. You can completely explore the colorful and vibrant locales with the adjustable camera. The great looking bosses and other characters make this adventure all the more enjoyable. Soundwise, the well-acted voice-overs can be hysterical at times, and the effects during battles are very convincing, going a long way in bringing this adventure to life. The intuitive controls are right on the money, and enable the player easy access to menus, Elemental forces, and weapons in no time at all.

A Slashing Good Time
Whatever is its that you look for in a game, you're bound to find it in Alundra 2. This action/RPG has got it all. From intense fighting, to hours of exploration, not to mention seriously complex puzzles. Players looking for a little of everything will not be disappointed.
