Oh, Brother(hood of Mutants)
Of course, the biggest deal in this installment is the joining forces of Xavier and Magneto. The plot of RoA opens with Magneto's fifedom, Genosha, crumbling before the awesome might of Apocalypse, and the mischievous master of magnetism must call upon his one-time bitter foes to aid him. A whirlwind parade of mutant cameos ensues as Xavier and Magneto attempt to thwart the dastardly machinations of Apocalypse. The uniting of the X-Men with Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants is not without friction, but playing with a mixed party adds a bit of spice to storyline.
Infinity Plus One
X-Men Legends II is nearly the same game as its predecessor with a few incremental improvements. Each of the 16 characters has had a complete makeover that includes new powers, costumes, and increased skill and equipment customization. In addition, the level design has been refined to induce fewer "Aw man, Iceman fell off a cliff again!" moments which dramatically increases the Fun Factor whether playing solo or with friends. Where replayability is concerned, RoA utilizes an open-ended mission structure that allows players to visit and revisit zones in order to keep things fresh. A greater diversity in enemies and a huge variety of environments provide a rich game experience while the exceptional voice acting and sharp, vivid graphics round out the package nicely.
Rise to the Occasion
As a sequel, X-Men Legends 2 is greater than the sum of its improvements, and just enough is different from the first game to bring old and new fans to the console. A solid, riveting story combined with refined gameplay set this game firmly in the outstanding (or should that be "uncanny"?) category.
KEY MOMENT: Discovering Blob in the Sea Wall zone seems like an unpleasant surprise until you realize that he's actually on your side!
