Final Fantasy IV Advance

A rehash of the SNES classic with some tweaks, Final Fantasy IV is just as good as you remember it.

For those who are too young to know what a SNES is or those who've sold their SNES for a PlayStation, Square Enix has wisely re-released the SNES classic Final Fantasy II under it's known name in Japan, Final Fantasy IV. Be warned: this re-release is the best move Square Enix has made yet.

How Cecil Got His Groove Back
The transition of porting a SNES game to the GBA isn't a particularly difficult one, but once you tack on the word "Advance," to the title, you know you're getting something either better or worse. In this case, it is the former as Square Enix does an excellent job of choosing its modifications. The graphics are crisp, and there is even a character portrait next to their data in the Info menu, which was not previously available. The movement speeds of your characters, as well as the NPCs, have drastically increased, making the gameplay time much shorter. Also new to the game is the Active option, for those who prefer a real-time battle than a turn-based one.

One of the biggest changes made to FFIV is the addition of a unique ability for each character. The best part about this is that these abilities are readily available with the characters. There are other big changes as well, such as an extended storyline, new dungeons, and a beastiary list for you to study the monsters you've fought, offering something fresh for new and old fans.

Old, But Still Good
In addition to a well-laid out story, the pixel art is incredible, the gameplay is sensible, and the music is enjoyable. Final Fantasy IV is possibly one of the best, if not the best, game of its series. Even for those who aren't immediately inclined to pick up an RPG, this is definitely one you would not want to miss.

KEY MOMENT: Seeing Tellah perform Meteor and do 9,999 damage. Now that is hot
