Evolution

Evolution tried its hardest to be one of the first RPG's out of the gate for the Dreamcast, but it made the rookie mistake of also being one of the easiest. How easy? You could finish this sucker in a weekend if you really try. But do you really want to try?

You Say You Want an Evolution?
In the vein of classic RPG's like Final Fantasy III or even Wild Arms, Evolution takes young looking, Japanese-influenced manga clones and sticks them into a couple of dungeons, lets them face a couple of bosses, and teaches them a few spells and specials along the way. Standard fare for an RPG you say? Damn straight, skippy. And Evolution doesn't get far off that beaten track either. The dungeons look fairly sparse, the enemies (golden cockroaches?) are not gonna make you tag your undies, and the music, voice, and sound effects could have come from any bright programmers mind.
Unfortunately, the biggest problem is the leveling up of your characters. You have to constantly leave and re-enter dungeons to bring your characters levels up for the bosses. You'll never be able to clear a dungeon of every single enemy and then take on the boss in the first round.
Not Yet Evolved
The super-cute characters, lack of voice effects, and overly repetitive battles (and you're looking at someone who played through the game twice) will make you think twice about buying Evolution. Instead, try taking this for a walk around the block for a weekend.
