DDR Extreme 2 doesn't deserve to be booed off the stage, but it definitely misses a few steps.
It's hard not to disparage the DDR franchise. A game based entirely on rigidly "dancing" to hardcore techno, trance, and trip-hop is so irresistibly funny it's practically built into the game to laugh. But with such a strong following, Konami has definitely done something right with the series. So what's so great about the latest installment in the DDR franchise? Not very much. For one, save for a handful of relatively current songs, most of which are unlockable, the music is purely recycled from earlier games. Some of the new gameplay modes are interesting, like playing online, but a "workout mode" hardly seems innovative. Even the additional use of the EyeToy, while fun, doesn't seem well utilized. The game doesn't deserve to be booed off stage, but it definitely missed a few steps.
