Gundam game fanatics get ready to revisit the Universal Century timeline with the latest Gundam title, Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam. This latest installment features an expanded story mode were players are tasked with reshaping the Zeta Gundam storyline by taking control of various characters and altering their fates--many of the characters have alternate routes and unlockable battles. The goal of the story mode is to allow the AEUG, Titians, or the Axis factions to reign supreme by the end of the Zeta Gundam series.Additionally, Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam sports a couple of new features to the stock Mobile Suit Gundam game engine. The games roster of Mobile Suits has been expanded to include 31 new suits--including variable Mobile Armors. The inclusion of the Mobile Armors greatly increases the amount of versatility and strategy needed when choosing your suits. Mobile Armors allow players to cover large portions of the battlefield and evade foes.
How dare you enjoy this?
Furthermore, the game engine includes an innovative new Hyper Combination mode, which allows players to activate three distinct Newtype powers when the gauge fills up. Players can choose from Attack, Recover, or Mobility. The powers can be activated anytime, and the Recovery power gives players an additional hit points when they reach zero. Assault negates all stun effects on your suit for 10 seconds, while Mobility increases your speed for 20 seconds.
Why do people always end up making the same mistakes?
While the new additions are god sent, the same flaws that have plagued the previous Mobile Suit Gundam titles are still present in this one. Maneuvering Mobile Suits in space environments is still a chore. The suits are sluggish and can't maneuver around static objects like solar panels and satellites. There's still no block button and the Mobile Suits shields remain immobile.
Even with all the unchanged flaws, Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam is still the best Gundam game to ever come out, and is highly recommended to fans of the series.
