One of the original pillars of the video game industry returns with glorious 64-bit graphics and effects in Space Invaders for the Nintendo 64. Unless you're a total gaming newbie, you already know what to expect - a relentless armada of ominous alien baddies systematically descending upon your tiny ship as you alone try to blow them away.

Back to the Future
Although presented with new graphics, sound effects, and features, Space Invaders remains true to its original 20+ year old concept about futuristic invading aliens. One or two players take turns manning a solitary tank that scrolls left to right along the bottom of the screen. From above, rows of different types of enemies descend mechanically one level at a time. The objective is simple - blast all the aliens before they touch the bottom of the screen.

In the original Space Invaders all you could do was shoot one missile at a time. Now, you earn special power-ups that can take out rows of aliens at a time with weapons such as Swarm Missiles, Fat Lasers, and Boomerang Bombs. A Mother Ship hovers above offering special weapons such as Shields, Double Shots, and Timestops if you're skillful enough to shoot it. Gigantic bosses await at the end of different waves to obliterate you in one-on-one action.

Blast from the Past
The graphics and sound effects are sharp, presenting Space Invaders with an appealing makeover. The controls are simple and easy to just pick up and play, which is the key to a well-designed game. The original twitch-gaming shooter is back from the past, and game geezers will be whisked back to gaming joys of yesteryear, while first timers will discover that it doesn't take complicated features in order to deliver pure video gaming fun.
