Just like last year's pro basketball season, 989 Sport's NBA Shootout 2000 gets a off to a late start after a long delay.

Is This The Real Deal?
This year's Shootout comes equipped with the standard set of basketball options - exhibition, season, and playoff play, all with full statistics tracking. It delivers all the current teams and rosters and a vastly updated arsenal of motion-captured moves. These options and more (including the Create-a-Dunk Mode) will really thrill some gamers, but when it comes down to the gameplay, there's no hiding the weak spots.
The graphics look blockier than they need to, and some animations (like the ball and rim) don't look real at all. Sound wise, the commentary adds some timely stats, but it's never better than average. Shootout really drops the ball when it comes to control. The shot meter is nice for three pointers, but frustrating for inside shots. The separate dunk button is infuriating when it doesn't work, almost always allowing a player to steal the ball from you. The game overall has a hard time keeping a smooth flow.
Too Little, Too Late
As Dreamcast fans enjoyed NBA 2K and NBA Live 2000 was lighting up PlayStations and N64s everywhere, Shootout was still on the bench. The game tries hard to capture the reality of pro hoops and does offer a few nice extras, but when it goes up against the big boys, it's out of its league.
