Your sell-out father makes a deal with the underworld and each of the 48 demons jack you for body parts. Here's a Samurai slasher that just might make it

Your sell-out of a dad makes a deal with the underworld and each of the 48 demons gets to jack you for body parts. After a sudden attack of a guilty conscience, your dad snatches what's left of your body away from the clutches of evil and abandons you elsewhere. But all is gravy when a lonely man adopts you and decides he'll replace your missing organs and appendages with synthetic ones. With god-given gifts and talents, you pursue the ways of the samurai and master the deadly art of the sword. Some years later, you begin your quest for revenge.

No concealed weapons, officer, I swear--not!

This is the premise of Blood Will Tell, and even if it seems surreal, it's certainly enough to get you going. At certain points throughout the game, you'll switch between two characters, Hyakkimaru (the "Pinnochio" samurai guy with weapons concealed in phony appendages) and Dororo, the subservient kid-thief. For these two, even when in a 3D environment, the game tends to be very linear (think Shinobi, but on a toned-down scale).

The graphics seem average, although the CG cut-scenes are nicely done. Though to make up for the shortsighted camera angles, Sega eliminated any obstructive scenery, so you spend a lot of your time in deserted lots. Furthermore, the monsters' A.I. dropped down a few notches so that you wouldn't get fed up when you didn't see them coming. Fortunately, the bosses, both mini and big, look awesome, and they are a heck more fun to fight against especially because of the "Boss Camera" view. And due to the arcade action nature of the game, the time passed between bosses is relatively short.

Despite the flaws in some of the camera angles, Blood Will Tell is still an enjoyable game. Even if you have to gruel out some time with the local monsters in between, the boss fights are really what this game is about as they come plentiful. If you're looking for fast-paced sword slashing and challenging bosses, give Blood Will Tell a try.
