Aside from a couple of guaranteed money plays, NCAA Football '99 is an excellent game. With all that it has going for it, this title is a no-brainer purchase for fans of the college game and diehard football gamers alike.

EA Sports is stomping back onto the college gridiron to make a lot of noise. Not only is NCAA Football 99 better in every way than last years game, it offers the complete college football package thanks to fantastic graphics and really awesome features.

Championship Form
EA really needed to step up its graphical game to match last years GameBreaker, and boy did it ever. NCAA Footballs players look incredible, sporting clean textures, extremely detailed player uniforms, and fluid movements. Theres never a glimpse of pixelization in these guyseven when the camera zooms in! EA also added new animations to this years contest, including wraparound tackles, one-handed receptions, and much more.

The new player models are just the tip of the iceberg. NCAA 99 also contains the most extensive create-a-play feature in the history of console-football gaming. Not only do you assign running back and receiver routes, but you also make blocking assignments for your linemen. You can then try out your new play on the practice field and add it to your teams playbook.

NCAA 99s Dynasty mode is also beefed up: You can play through more than just four years with any team and recruit players to fill the spots left by graduating seniors. The Dynasty mode also includes a Coach mode where you can be fired if you have a dismal season. Add all these new features to the standard list of play options40 Great Games situations, create-a-player, team-specific playbooks, season-end awards, extensive stat tracking, plus exclusive rights to the Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar bowlsand you get one exceptionally deep football sim.

All-Out Blitz
NCAA 99s sound is also superb. This years gridiron sonic effects feature awesome head-rattling, helmet-to-helmet collisions, more pep-band fight songs, and play-by-play commentary by Rose Bowl announcer, Chuck White.

Whats more, aside from the slight floating effect of the players, the control is tight. EA beefed it up by adding analog-stick passing for pinpoint accurate throws (it will take you some time to master this, however, so be patient), multiple-trajectory kicking to vary your height on field-goal attempts and punts, and the ability to bust ankle-breaking juke moves. Plus, you have better control over the running game because your players dont always go down right as theyre being hit.

Its a Blowout
Aside from a couple of guaranteed money plays, NCAA Football 99 is an excellent game. With all that it has going for it, this title is a no-brainer purchase for fans of the college game and diehard football gamers alike.
