MTX: Mototrax

Travis Pastrana and friends show you what its really like flying in midair over well-groomed dirt with lots and lots of jumps.

Maybe its the noise; maybe its the expense. But for whatever reason, motocross doesnt have as high a profile as the other extreme action sports like skateboarding and BMX freestyle. But put a dirt bikes handlebars in Activisions capable hands, and even the mud-slinging can be a bit more enjoyable.

MTX is in two-wheel harmony with just the right amount of realism and arcade gameplay for a motocross game. Sure, the basic concept is to race around outdoor and indoor tracks that are littered with sharp turns and a bunch of bumps on the road. The gas and brakes, however, arent the only controls that help you maneuver such challenging obstacles. You also need to compress your bikes suspension. Doing so allows for higher jumps, which in turn means more air and more time to pull off sick tricks. This adds another dimension when youre faced with small and big bumps in your path, and all it takes is a simple press of a button at just the right moment. MTXs visuals definitely contribute to the fun time. Bikers and their motorized partners look sharp, while the arenas surprisingly offer a lot of detail. The inclusion of free ride areas like a rock quarry or Travis Pastranas compound mixes up the sights nicely. And if youre a head bangin fan, artists like Disturbed, Metallica, and Slipknot contribute to the soundtrack.

True, motocross isnt for everyone, but if you enjoy the sport even slightly, MTX: Mototrax certainly wont disappoint.
