Konami is a publishing vet, though here it might mean ?veterinarian??the combatants are humans with beast alter-egos, including a tiger, a lion, and?yes?a rabbit. The latest take features 14 returning morphighters and adds three new ones: Nagi the Spurious, Reiji the Crow, and a team comprised of Ryoho and little girl/fox Mana.
The title packs in nine gameplay modes, including the Arcade, Time Attack, and Versus standards. Career mode offers a fantasy twist on the ?make your fighter? option with DNA as a victory prize (along with the occasionally revealed feature or unlocked fighter). It can be used to tailor the character?s ability list in much the same way vehicles can be tweaked in racing games.
BR4 takes the franchise?s wild fighting to the extreme with a massive sensory assault. Every strike rattles the speakers, and lengthy combos are common, all accompanied by spellcasting-like bursts. Each blow also raises a spray of?is it red paint? It must be, because the fighters don?t otherwise appear damaged during combat. However, ?Wet Paint Roar? doesn?t sound as cool. The accompanying audio is crisp, but the voice acting seems like an afterthought. While BR4 might not challenge for the Best Fighting Game crown, it does offer extremulicious action.
