Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs

Gamers under 10 will enjoy Spyro?s cute visuals and simple, adventure-based gameplay.

In this GBA adventure, Spyro must stop the evil Rhynocs by collecting all the ?Hearts of the Land? across 14 expansive levels. Spyro fans will note many similarities to the previous GBA title, Season of Flame, especially in the graphics department, where the stylish 2D characters and cheerful pseudo-3D environments boast crisp detail. As for the audio, the cutesy music and effects are effective, if a bit tinny.

Compared to previous GBA Spyro games, the biggest difference is the addition of new collectable abilities (including teleportation and lightning blasts) and magic items, which players can use to uncover hidden levels and mini-games. This RPG-lite twist ultimately becomes the game?s best feature, easily outshining the repetitive platform-hopping segments. And with a GBA link cable, the head-to-head Byrd Rescue mode is a blast. Tight, responsive controls seal the deal, making Attack of the Rhynocs the most enjoyable GBA Spyro title to date. Older gamers should stick with Metroid Fusion, but younger players will love this magic dragon.
