Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne

If you own WarCraft III and were pleased with it, chances are you?ve already blindly purchased the expansion pack. The good news is, you probably weren?t disappointed if you went that route, as WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne is just as much fun as the original. WCIII: FT follows Blizzard?s pattern of packing their expansion packs with just as much gameplay and story as the core game it augments.

The story of The Frozen Throne picks up shortly after the events of WCIII, but there?s a bonus quest that is immediately playable, telling a parallel tale. The overall narrative takes a lot more unpredictable twists and turns that give the game exciting momentum. This is critical to Frozen Throne?s success, as many of the missions are a good deal more difficult than what you?ve played in WCIII. Plus, it all leads up to the starting point for the upcoming World of WarCraft MMORPG, so it?s almost required homework if you plan to play that game when it comes out next year.

The new hero characters, units, and a wealth of multiplayer options give the returning material a fresh feel. The audio once again shines with stellar voice acting and appropriately epic background music. The graphics are still quite pretty, but slightly dated now. Some more cinema scenes would have been nice, but it probably would have skyrocketed the retail price closer to that of the original.

All in all, WarCraft fans won?t have very much to complain about except that it may be years before they ever see WarCraft IV.
