Say You Want a Revolution
The GameCube version of RFII looks a bit better and runs a tad smoother than the PS2 version, but smudgy visuals and occasional frame rate dips make it suffer in comparison to the Xbox release. Another problem is the controls. The GameCube controller is not as suited for first-person shooters as the Xbox one?something painfully evident in RFII. You can only scroll through your weapons in one direction, the targeting feels loose, and you?ll often use night-vision instead of crouching whenever you try pressing Down on the tiny GameCube directional pad.
The One Against the Many
Still, Red Faction II is a gripping and action-packed experience that will appease if you?re jonesing for a straightforward FPS. Great levels are heightened by fully destructible environments, while piloting futuristic vehicles keeps the action from growing monotonous. Best of all is you?ve got a lot of very cool weapons to choose from?including dual Uzis, grenade launchers, sniper rifles, and different types of grenades?so you?ll never run out of ways to stomp, squash, and slay enemies. RFII is a very solid choice.
