Pleased To Eat You!
Kirby, a warpstar knight in training, is trying to reassemble the Star Rod, which King Dedede stole. Without the Rod, the Fountain of Dreams is dry and no one in Dreamland can dream?obviously, mayhem ensues. Kirby battles his way through seven multi-level stages, meeting and eating foes along the way. After he consumes his prey, Kirby can copy their abilities fighting fire with fire (sometimes literally).
Enemies regenerate quickly, but Kirby?s a buoyant bubble and can soar over obstacles. Addictive mini-games pop up on your path, like Quick Draw (the hysterical twitch samurai game) and Bomb Rally (a four-player version of hot potato), offering life-ups for prizes. Mini-games are also available for quick play.
Don?t Fight with Your Mouth Full
Kirby?s detailed graphics take advantage of the GBA?s strength while keeping the playing field small to compensate for the tiny screen. Lighting can sometimes be an issue, but that is more a drawback of the system than of the game. The saccharine score is standard Nintendo fare; it will creep into your psyche and have you humming at random intervals throughout the day.
Nightmare in Dreamland provides a truly enjoyable gaming experience. Its gameplay and control are easy to pick up and play, but there is a depth to planning your route and picking your targets. The bosses are appropriately challenging without being frustratingly impossible. While it may not be the type of game you can?t wait to pick up, Kirby is a hard one to put down.
