Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

There is much fear in you. I sense trepidation about the GameCube version of Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Search your feelings and read the review.

Jedi Knight II was the PC game that reminded a lot of gamers why they liked Star Wars so much in the first place, so you?d think that the console versions of JKII would be similarly fantastic. On the GameCube, however, JKII has more in common with The Phantom Menace than Empire Strikes Back where quality is concerned.

A lot of the promise from the other versions is still there?the Force powers give you a real feeling of being a Jedi, the enemies look and sound like extras from Star Wars, and the typical LucasArts brilliant soundtrack is still here, albeit muddled and distant?but the rest of the good stuff didn?t make the translation. The GameCube version?s muddy graphics look like VHS footage of the Xbox version, and the stiff, unresponsive controls make actually playing the game a chore. JKII?s seemingly endless jumping puzzles only become more annoying when you have to reload over and over because the imprecise controls send you careening over a ledge. In order for the game to even be playable, you?ll have to adjust the C Stick sensitivity before you start, or it will take you 15 seconds to line up a shot.

Unless you?re really hurting for some Jedi action, you?d be better off playing TimeSplitters 2. JKII is a decent game for the big Star Wars fan, but it?s not good enough on its own to interest the nonbelievers.
