Bananas and Blaster Rifles
TimeSplitters 2?s time-jumping story line is much improved over that of the original PS2 launch title, but it still serves best as an excuse to jump into wildly different multiplayer arenas and have at it, using weapons from crossbows to plasma rifles as you quest, essentially, to blow everything that moves into a fine mist. As central as shooting is to the gameplay, though, there?s more to TimeSplitters 2 than that. Clever missions and unconventional tasks (? la GoldenEye) keep combat-jaded gamers from getting bored.
With few exceptions, TimeSplitters 2 handles itself on the Xbox with ease. While the game?s cartoony graphics are a bit too simple to be completely impressive, they definitely help carry out the game?s none-too-serious mood and fast-action feel. The Xbox controller feels more awkward than that of the other two systems, but it requires only a tiny bit more practice for it to become second nature. Just like in the other versions, the game?s music and sounds are completely topnotch, and if you?re burning for multiplayer options, TS2 easily delivers on that front with LAN support and an easy-to-use Map Maker included.
Life After Halo
Yeah, yeah, you already have Halo. TS2 is no Halo, but it?s really, really close. For fast-paced and light-hearted FPS action, it takes a Halo to beat TimeSplitters 2.
