Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts

Another SNES classic gets reconstituted for the GBA, complete with a new remixed Arrange mode that?ll make you absolutely insane.

If you like playing old SNES games on your GBA but have been saddened by the lack of really, really, really, really, really stupidly hard ones, here cometh your manna from heaven. Super Ghouls ?N Ghosts is a perfectly faithful re-creation (slowdown and all) of one of the most stupidly hard SNES games ever made. And now, as a bonus for connoisseurs of a finer sort of torture, there?s even a remixed ?Arrange mode? that works in levels from the game?s prequels with the difficulty level ramped up beyond even the original version's. Thank the blighted bird god for the new mid-game save feature, which saves not only your progress, but also your general good will toward man.

Precision-crafted level layouts (that often require rote memorization in order to succeed), music that?s the video game equivalent to Beethoven?s Ninth, and one of the best lineup of weapon power-ups ever conceived are what make Super Ghouls ?N Ghosts so good, though you should be warned: While Arthur controls pretty precisely, he?s kinda slow, and predates the dawn of the floaty mid-air jump control we?re used to in our cushy modern next-gen games.

Still, while Super Ghouls ?N Ghosts is a classic and all, the novelty of owning a portable SNES emulator is starting to wear a little thin. How tough would it have been for Capcom to craft a whole-new Ghouls ?N Ghosts adventure?especially given that there?s an all-new Metroid title and a second brand-new Castlevania on the way?
