Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex

Crash makes his historic GameCube debut as he rubs shoulders with Sonic and Mario.

Who would have guessed Crash, Sonic, and Mario would eventually appear on the same system? With the arrival of Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex on the GameCube, this seemingly impossible alignment of planets has come to fruition.

The controls are classic Crash with the requisite jumps and spins joined by dashes of flying, swimming, and Marble Madness?style gaming to spice things up. The frame rate dips occasionally, which detracts from the otherwise-smooth gameplay. Graphically, this version is slightly below the recent Xbox release but in line with the competent PlayStation 2 iteration. The levels are colorful, and Crash himself looks as nutty as ever. The game?s bouncy soundtrack is pleasant, but is nothing new for veterans of the wily marsupial?s adventures. The Wrath of Cortex gives fans more of what they like, just not anything new.
