Unfortunately, the title of this game merely exploits the Pac-Man brand name - it doesn't illustrate the actual gameplay nonsense you endure, which has nothing to do with frantic dot eating. Pac-Man Fever is a shameless Mario Party rip-off, complete with cheerful playing boards but with less-appealing mini-games where up to four people play at once. The objective is the same as that of a real board game: be the first one to the last square. On your way to the goal, though, you'll be challenged by 30 yawn-inducing mini-games that range from fruit collecting to target shooting. Completing these small-scale competitions involves only simple button hits and the occasional left/right presses on the directional pad.
A disappointing visual and sound package only lessons the appeal of the entire game. Dull sound effects scattered in between the cutesy, overly repetitive music that plays in the background is the extent of Fever's dismal soundtrack. A plain palette of ordinary colors on the boards and in the mini-challenges isn't all that visually pleasing, either - the PS2 is capable of producing much more eye candy, even if (especially if!) it is just a board game.
Without even a hint of fun multiplayer competition, you and your friends will certainly catch an unfavorable fever caused by a dismal showing of Pac-Man Fever.
