The Thing

This PS2 survival/horror game picks up right where the movie left off: Half-frozen and fully freaked out.

The Thing is survival/horror for people who like to kill things. Picking up right where the film left off, you play Blake, a soldier sent to Antarctica to find out what the hell happened to the scientific expedition seen in the film. The goal for The Thing was clearly to stay true to the movie, both in words and deeds. That means you?ll hear legitimate four-letter swear words and see a lot of disturbing imagery. The greatest weapon in this game isn?t a flamethrower or a shotgun?it?s paranoia. If your squad members don?t trust you, they won?t follow your orders?or worse. This unique squad dynamic adds an new depth to survival/horror gameplay, and the interface is tricky but excellent with some practice. The sounds of alien shrieks, whistling Antarctic winds, and blazes of gunfire?but no music?make for a wonderfully unsettling audio palette. Seriously gory but realistic environments and a action-heavy gameplay mix make The Thing a satisfyingly disturbing must-play.
