Naturally, Bomberman has always been about multiplayer melee, and Generation serves up its share of addictive fragfests. Even though the additional Battle games provide welcome variety, they can?t touch the trademark four-player every-man-for-himself Standard Battle; and for B-man purists, the perspective can be altered from slanted 3D to ?classic? flat 2D overhead view.
Bomberman comes with solid features. Even if you?ve seen enough cel-shaded graphics to induce spontaneous self-combustion, Generation?s subtle pastel colors don?t draw undue attention. The whimsical all-too-cute music, though, quickly grinds on the nerves, as do the kiddy character voices. The straightforward control scheme keeps Bomberman?s few abilities under tight command. Ultimately, Bomberman Generation delivers decent solo fun, but this game is best played with four friends hunched around the television, bent on trying to blow each other to smithereens.
