FreekStyle
This is the game Excitebike wanted to be when it grew up and rebelled against its parents.
If you thought SSX was a little too tame for your tastes, you?re in for a treat with Freekstyle. EA?s latest Big title takes high-octane motorcycle racing, adds the challenge of performing accurately timed tricks on jumps, and throws in nine completely bizarre levels, including a giant hedge maze and a high-rolling criss-cross course inspired by Las Vegas. The track design is just excellent. As you pull off stunts, the Freekout meter builds; perform a super stunt when it?s active, and you?ll burn around the track?literally?leaving a trail of fire. The game positively flies by with smooth character animation and absolutely no slowdown. Motion blur is used judiciously during Freekouts, and you?ll see some nice glass and fire effects. The soundtrack features the kind of amped-up heavy metal you might expect, the opponent A.I. is quite good, and the controls prove flexible but solid. Sure, you can call it "SSX on dirt"?and that?s not an insult. The games share a go-for-it attitude and an instant accessibility that most other games lack. It?s fantasy fun, pure and simple.
