Star X

Beware, Earthlings! Star X cometh, the first GBA game to break the polygon barrier!
Step back to a time when jargon like bump mapping and tri-linear filtering hadnt even been invented yet, and a polygon count was something you could perform on one hand. Witness Star X, a handheld space shootin Star Fox wannabe that proves the SNES can still do a few things better than the GBA.While theres a definite wow, neato! factor to seeing a GBA push polygons for the first time in its short history, that joyful feeling is quickly replaced by the feeling that what youre playing is more a tech demo than a game. Things like too-touchy spastic controls, lifeless space dogfights, and instances of pop-up that look like the world is constantly rearranging itself nearly kill the polygonal fun. The music is pretty cooldefinitely influenced by '70s TV space operasthough the sound effects are strictly utilitarian, providing audio cues for when its time to dodge a barrage of boss bullets. Star X is cool for five minutes; watch the fun meter plummet as time goes on.
