Shadow Man: 2econd Coming

Nifty graphics are dragged down by awkward controls and lackluster adventuring?this zombie should?ve stayed in his crypt.

Acclaim resurrects one of its original characters in Shadow Man 2: 2econd Coming, but this zombie hero would have been better off left for dead. You play as Mike LeRoi, a demon hunter who transforms back and forth from the undead to the living as he battles vile voodoo villains seeking to conquer the world. The Mature rating is for graphic, gory violence as well as adult language and humor; however, the action fails to deliver the same caliber of shivers as other M-rated frights like Resident Evil.

Shadow Man 2 features better graphics than previous incarnations thanks to the PS2 engine, but the environments are sparse and you have to travel long distances before encountering something to do. The controls are adequate, but require patience and practice to be able to efficiently move around and fight. Hand-to-hand combat is weak; you can tag opponents without even directly connecting with them. Sound effects are minimal during gameplay, although the FMV cut scenes are entertaining (but you can?t play the cut scenes).

If you enjoy run-jump-fight adventure games, then Shadow Man 2 makes a good one-time rental. However, in the final tally of adventure games, this one remains in the shadows.
