NHL Hitz 2002

Hockey purists may cry, "What the puck?" but NHL Hitz 20-02 for the GameCube is hockey for the rest of us.

NHL Hitz 20-02 ain?t "real" hockey. Okay, so you play with NHL teams and athletes and there?s ice, but that?s about as close as you get to the real thing. Hitz is arcade sports at its puck-punishing best. You skate manaically around a short rink ? passing , body checking, and taking slap shots as you go. The action?s so furious, so confined that sometimes you?re doing all three at once.

But it?s one heckova show! The simple but dead-on controls do a masterful job of orchestrating the frenetic action. You can deke, pull one-timers, and bust some mean body checks. You get to fight, too, and the loser goes to the penalty box?cool! The graphics work hard. You?re not going to recognize your favorite stars, but you use guys who?re wearing their real uniforms and using their real names. The sounds lay down some howling rock licks, and the announcer stays in your face.

NHL Hitz 20-02 might not be real NHL hockey, but it might be all the hockey you really need.
