Brain Challenge

Brain Challenge, the recently released Xbox Live puzzle game, is appropriately named. Although Brain Aneurysm might be better because it can be as tough as an Albert Einstein proctored physics class. But if you're into puzzles, are fast on your feet, have a speedy trigger finger and love standardized testing, Brain Challenge is just what you've been looking for.

In the game players compete in mental exercises that test skills in five different categories -- Logic, Math, Memory, Visual and Focus. Tests are timed, so to score well you have to get as many questions right as quickly as possible. Using the highest percentage of your brain is the goal and it isn't easy. Questions get progressively harder the more correct answers you earn and if you think you can "study" for the tests, forget it. Brain Challenge offers thirty games in its five categories and they're always random. In order to prepare you for the tests and increase your mental fitness, a somewhat sarcastic personal coach is provided to give you pointers on areas you should focus on through mini-games and various statistics. If you get tired of your saucy coach, online matches offer a nice break and are a lot of fun.

While the game has much to offer it does have a few drawbacks. Lower levels can get tedious since improvement is slow, and higher levels are frustrating. Only Stephen Hawking and a few select Nobel Prize winners will ever unlock the 100% Brain Usage Achievement. Load mechanical pencils in your pocket protector and tape those glasses because Brain Challenge lives up to its name.

Pros: Wide range of puzzle types and level difficulty, enjoyable multi-player mode
Cons: Just like standardized testing, it can get monotonous and frustrating at times
