Digimon Digital Card Battle

Those little digipests return in a turn-based card game sim for the PlayStation.

In Bandai?s Pok?mon knock-off, Digimon Digital Card Battle, you travel to several cities and battle it out with other Digimon card players in virtual battle arenas. Along the way, you amp up your customizable deck by racking up specialty cards after each victory.... yawn.

Digital Card Battle doesn?t offer anything beyond the real card game, except for the crude polygon battle sequences which, thankfully, can be deactivated. The basic interface makes navigating the rudimentary menu a breeze, and the game can become addictive after you master its confounding rules. True strategy, however, is jettisoned by unpredictable card draws that cause the matches to vacillate between frustrating and extremely boring.

Card Battle also suffers from an unimaginative presentation and painfully annoying music that sounds like the kind of crap pumped out of Neo Print machines. All told, this game is a lackluster effort that will appeal only to diehard digifreaks.
