Fortress

Okay, so it looks like Tetris?and sure, it seems a lot like Rampart?but Fortress manages to find a few new things to do with really ancient puzzle game architecture.

Gee, you?d think they?d have run out of ways to clone Tetris by now. But Fortress is a fun, chaotic puzzle game that pits you and an opponent (either human or computer-controller) against one another in a race to build the best stronghold by semi-thoughtfully positioning walls and weapons as they fall from the sky.

The graphics look cluttered but have cartoony character. The explosions sound like they?re playing through McDonalds drive-thru speakers, and the music consists of over-enthusiastic looney tunes. Plus, control is hampered because you can?t see all your base at once?yet the game is so fast-paced you?ll barely notice any of that. Note, however, that the two-player link-up adds little since you barely give the second player a glance. Despite a few structural flaws, Fortress is a fun way to kill little chunks of time.
