Sega Rally Revo

There isn't much to Sega Rally Revo that hasn't been seen before, but it's still a good racing game. Sleek courses and some absurdly difficult turns give this game the feel of an arcade game, but there aren't a lot of options--even for a racing game.

People looking for the thrill of lighting paced races should look no further. Rally throws you into the driver's seat without much fuss, and races rarely disappoint your hunger for speed. But fans of racing games full of special objectives and cool upgrades will be disappointed; there's something kind of refreshing about this simple approach, but it doesn't give the gamer much motivation to play for the long haul.

Afraid of Failure?

Don't be surprised to come in dead last for you first few races. Sega Rally is a racing games that punishes you for having a lead foot. Courses are full of slippery turns and often covered in mud and water. You won't be able to power through turns with sheer momentum; the level of finesse required will take some time to get used to.

Although frustrating at first, there's plenty of fun to be had, especially when you've mastered moves like power-sliding, which work well in Rally's challenging courses. But at the end of the day, it would have been nice if the turns weren't quite so difficult. There's no getting around the fact that you need to slow down to make the turn, and who wants to slow down during a race? Rally is also a game that punishes you for trying to cut corners. Courses have clearly marked tracks which are difficult to adhere to, but you'll have to if you want any chance of winning a race as computer rivals never seem to have a problem staying within the lines.

As with just about every PS3 game I've seen, Rally looks amazing. Courses look sharp and consist of intricate details. But what really looks the best are the things thrown in to slow you down: ice, water, mud and dirt are all present, and you'll have to learn how to interact with each. Cars have plenty of their own details, but they seem to be more for show than anything else. All in all, Rally is a safe bet for fans of racing games. There isn't too much in the way of bells and whistles, but the actual races are a blast, and it's definitely a game that grows on you as your skills improve.

PROS: Simple approach to racing, looks great, interacting with the environment.
CONS: Almost no extra options, controls a little frustrating.
