But unlike many other renditions of this timeless classic, Tetris Splash is a horrible failure, almost certainly destined to be remembered as the worst version of Tetris yet released.
WHAT IS IT?
Simply stated, Tetris Splash is an aquatic themed remake of the original puzzle classic designed by Alexey Pajitnov way back in 1985. The gameplay should be familiar to just about anyone - various shaped falling tetrominos fall down the gameboard, and you must rotate each block so that they form a single horizontal line across the board to score and remove the line.
Tetris Splash doesn't change much of this basic system, as it includes the standard marathon version of the game as well as a "40 Line Challenge" in which you need to clear the aforementioned amount of lines in as small a time as possible. There are some multiplayer options included as well so that you can play others locally or over Xbox Live.
That said, you'd probably be lucky to find anyone else to play, considering how badly this version has been put together. Like many other version iteration of the classic puzzle game have done, Tetris Splash has gone and ruined any sort of challenge the game might present by allowing players to avoid locking in tetrominos by continually rotating them. Instead of forcing you to get your moves done in a timely fashion players can instead rotate and move the pieces for as long as they need. Considering the overall sparseness of the package, it then comes into question--why spend 800 Microsoft Points on what could charitably be called one of the most mediocre renditions of Tetris yet made?
PROS:
- It doesn't have any.
CONS: -
- One of the worst Tetris remakes yet released.
- Infinite tetromino rotation ruins tension and difficulty.
- Background music becomes annoying very quickly.
- Unoriginal gameplay modes.
FINAL VERDICT: Fans of the classic puzzle game should stay far, far away from this truly awful version of Tetris.
