WHAT IS IT?
This is the age-old story of master and slave. In this case you are the master, and the slaves are waiting for you to match three runes in a row so that bricks will come crumbling down for them to build with. Sound familiar? Yeah, we've seen this gameplay in hundreds of Bejeweled games and Bejeweled knockoffs.
When you are stumped and no bricks come down, the slaves begin to protest and threaten to leave the worksite. Okay, so they aren't really slaves, but who are we kidding, we know the history. As the levels progress the opportunities to match three in a row become slim and downright frustrating. Those "workers" don't know how to take five.
PROS:
- Addictive and fun gameplay.
- Easy to pick up and learn because we've seen it all before.
- Graphics are interesting to look at.
- Characters are cute to watch.
CONS:
- Doesn't stand out in the puzzle game world.
- The story is hardly a compelling tale of the struggle of slave and master.
FINAL VERDICT: 7 Wonders of the Ancient World is simple fun for a road trip. It's easy to pick up and just as easy to put down, and just like any other puzzle game, it's addictive. But with a cornucopia of puzzle games out there, 7 Wonders is just another bland face in the crowd. Sorry, but I get no satisfaction from building old sandcastles.
