Tomb Raider Chronicles

Whether you adore her or abhor her, Lara Croft is too big a name to keep out of video games.

Lara still looks good, and, besides her trademark attire, she dons a commando outfit as well as a deep-sea diving suit. And she again appears as a ponytailed teenage version of herself. The environments vary widely and are smoother than in previous games, but are still heavily pixelated. While the game unfolds in very diverse locations, the cubic layout of the levels differs little from those in previous games?if you changed the textures, you?d think you were back in a tomb. The sound, too, hasn?t changed from previous games and consists mostly of Lara grunting and groaning, though the weapons still sound cool.

Despite the improved graphics and imaginative story, Tomb Raider Chronicles has the same controls as previous Tomb Raider games, and they feel as antiquated as any relic Lara ever unearthed. While they might have seemed fine two or three years ago, they?re now downright clumsy and annoying, especially when compared to those in other recent action/adventure games such as Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. If you still enjoy the series and want more, go with Tomb Raider Chronicles. But if Lara hasn?t yet cast her spell on you, you?d do well to look for an adventure game with less frustrating controls
