S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (Page 3 of 3)

But weapons aren't the only items you'll come across in the game. Delicious canned meats, binoculars, bolts, that are used to test which areas are safe to walk into, energy drinks, and medical kits are just a few of the items you can obtain, often times off the bodies of dead enemies. You can even get your buzz on with some bottom shelf vodka, which gives you drunk vision and makes you stagger around.

Plenty of Misshapen Uglies to Airhole

The Zone may not be crawling with mutants, but the shortage of monsters in the game makes it more of a shock when you do run into one of these creatures. The first time we encountered a bloodcurdling beast cloaked in invisible Predator-like camouflage, we screamed like babies. Then we tossed lobbed a grenade in his direction. Everything from deformed doggies, to zombies, to rat wolves inhabit the game. You heard us right, rat wolves.

Stalk Online

There are three different multiplayer modes in the game. There are the standard deathmatch and team deathmatch modes, where points earned during matches can be used in between spawning to purchase armor, accessories, and better weapons. The better your performance is online, the more rewards you will gain access to. There is also a multiplayer mode where you'll be trading with other Stalkers and playing simultaneously while completing tasks and collecting artifacts.

There were a couple of drawbacks during our hands-on time spent with S.T.A.L.K.E.R., such as the relatively slow-paced gameplay, overall scarcity of mutants, and some issues with the impact bullets have on enemies, which doesn't feel quite right. Hopefully these minor quibbles can be corrected before the games release, which is scheduled for the first quarter of 2007. Either way, first-person shooting is about to get a whole lot more interesting once this monster hits store shelves. --Long-Haired Offender
