  • A Glimpse of the Game

We got a little bit of eye time with Heroes campaign, as well as some hands-on play with skirmish mode. During our single-player viewing we saw pieces of a Sgt. Baker mission in Italy where we noticed specific in-game particle effect treats such as shattering glass and splintering wood. There are plenty of guns and explosives, the ability to melee attack, and the option to "cook" grenades before letting them loose. For single-player though, expect the standard MOH style play -- there's really nothing out of the ordinary here.

As for skirmish, we hopped in a 10-plus person game and plowed through most of the bots. Right now, some bots are tweaked at very high difficulty, others very low, as to try to achieve a balanced flow. But, we suspect there will be some more A.I. tweaking before release.

The controls were noticeably fluid at first touch. Precision aiming with medium to long-range weapons was good, and short-range weapons were just as easy to use. There is a nice double-tap option that lets you turn from side to side much faster.

Medal of Honor: Heroes is set for release in late October, a little bit ahead of the holiday rush. If you're looking for a good online PSP experience, it looks to be the best bet in 2006.
