Sin & Punishment

There are very few holiday wishes N64 owners dream more often about than a US release of Sin & Punishment. We give you another Hands On for the legions of hopeful out there.

To say that Sin & Punishment is not your ordinary shooting game is an understatement and a half. The game controls are very similar to GoldenEye in that you use the analog stick to aim your weapon and use the yellow arrow buttons to move your character. The main difference is that you can jump with the right shoulder button and dash or roll by double tapping the directional keys. While you can move around the screen to dodge enemy fire, the game dictates where you go in the level and at what pace you must move. The graphics are among some of the best the N64 has seen in terms of special effects and amount of onscreen action. It definitely could have used the expansion pack for clearer visuals, but there had to be a trade off somewhere. The sounds are equally impressive if only for the sheer amount of spoken dialog in the game. Luckily the music sets the tone nicely for all the chaos going on. Sin & Punishment is the sort of game that Nintendo would never have released two years ago, but with the success of GoldenEye, they have changed their policy on games for the mature audience. Games like Conker's Bad Fur day, Perfect Dark, and Eternal Darkness show that they are committed to expanding the older audience so it's almost a given that we should see S & P make its appearance on these shores.
