But it's not until Tony escapes from the mansion that the true nature of the game unfolds. And you'll see the Vice City similarities right away. Tony cruises the streets of Miami to the background music of "Rush, Rush (to the Yayo)", and that's all it took to hook me in. In fact, the graphics look even better than Vice -- much for crisp, vibrant, and the draw distance is quite good. And, to step it up, Scarface runs in beautiful 16x9 in 480p, and is even rumored to run in 720p on Xbox. Sick
There are plenty of hot 80s cars and music in Scarface
Here are the highlights from our initial run with Scarface on PS2:
- Solid visual representation; great character models, especially Tony- Excellent sound-alike voice acting for Tony; actor was hand-picked by Al Pacino himself
- Good aiming / targeting system makes gunplay simple and effective
- Blind Rage mode pops Tony into first-person view to let loose hell upon opponents
- Driving engine is very solid with good physics and damage modeling
- When shooting, hilarious text display shows what specific body part Tony hits. Needless to say, your foes might want to wear a protective athletic support, if you catch my drift...
- Tony vocal taunting lets you unleash some uproarious verbal thunder on unsuspecting foes -- always tons o' fun. There are many, many variations
- Open-city style gameplay continues the good of the GTA trend
As we near Scarface's September release, we expect for juicy play time with Tony and his extended life of crime. Check back soon for extended coverage.
Tony really doesn't care for other people's property
