Based on the Japanese anime of the same name, Orphen: Scion of Sorcery combines RPG adventure with real-time battles making it a genre bender of the first order. The storyline in the game is unique from the anime, but the same team that does the anime cartoon worked on the cutscenes, so fans will feel the authenticity. Depending on whom you pick to join your party, the game follows one of three different storylines, and you need to play through all three of them to meet the final boss. Real-time lighting makes the offensive and defensive magic effects, as well as the summon spells, stand out against the 3D rendered world. You can fight with weapons, but they are secondary to magic in Orphen. Because the battles are in realtime, the combat works somewhat like arena style fighters. There is a targeting system so you can specify your target, and you can freely move about during combat. It's certainly a different twist on RPG games, but Orphen will most likely set a new standard when it ships on October 26th.
