Zero to Sixty3?2?1?Rush! That's what the countdown sounds like as San Francisco Rush 2049 gets ready to race on the Dreamcast September 5th. Gameplay in Rush 2049 stays true to the old Rush games, so hardcore fans will feel right at home. Powerslides and big air still rule when it comes to Rush racing, but there have been a few tweaks here and there. For one, some tracks have half-pipe ramps that you can drive up to help you get around tight corners. Secondly, the shortcuts and secrets have been bumped up a notch in difficulty. Track secrets have never been easy to find or navigate through in the Rush games, but now they're even more difficult to come by.
Pedal To The Metal
Aside from racing, there is a Stunt Mode where you drive for stunt points. You can use a retractable wing here to manage your spins and flips and give yourself more hang time. A Battlematch Mode lets you duke it out head-to-head with weapons in a Vigilante 8-style battle. Of course, there are plenty of locked car upgrades and tracks you'll have to earn by grabbing keys on the tracks and winning races. With the online capabilities of the Dreamcast, you'll be able to upload and download saved games, track times and high scores.
New Paintjob
Rush 2049's designers went wild with animated streetcars and trams, ultra modern buildings, and tight turns. The night courses are bathed in neon lights, and you can pick out classic San Francisco landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge during daytime races. The city neighborhoods such as The Marina, and The Haight (which sports two huge lava lamps) have distinct atmospheres that feel a lot like San Francisco, but have been upgraded with a wild new look. With a number of cars to choose from, customizable handling (including acceleration, top speed, and durability), and all-new crazy courses, Rush 2049 should bring a new level of arcade racing to the Dreamcast when it ships September 5th.
