Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Mortal Kombat prepares for a final send-off on the current generation of hardware.

Best-Case Scenario: With the last showing of the current generation, Midway is making Armageddon the most feature-packed MK yet. It could be a great last send off for the PS2 and Xbox.

Worst-Case Scenario: Like Shaolin Monks, Armageddon has the potential to be another mediocre fighter, especially because of the lack of current-generation support and popularity.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is the latest installment in the MK series from Midway, and thankfully, this Armageddon has no Ben Afflecks or Billy Bob Thorntons. Whew!

Midway showed off Armageddon at E3, and boasted that it has the most complete roster of MK characters ever, supporting just about every character to appear in the Mortal Kombat universe. In fact, Midway reps said there is probably going to be over 60 playable characters when all is said and done.

Several new features should keep MK fans happy with this newest piece of the puzzle. Here's what in store.

Create-A-Fighter: This new mode allows players define their own fighters look, abilities, and personality. Specifically, you'll be able to alter facial and bodily features with great detail, and then get right down to clothing and accessories. And each fighter's style and weaponry are also completely at your whim. You can choose a fighting style that suits your character, and then suit him up axes and swords, and give him/her some juicy new moves.

Create-A-Fatality: When you're settled on a bitchin' new character, it's time to create your own fatality move. This is done by stringing together several moves/attacks into one sick fatality.

Konquest Mode: Now, instead of simply being a means of training, the new Konquest mode is actually a full-fledged MK adventure mode, complete with its own story and gameplay.

Midway has also promised all-new online features with more customization and a newfangled lobby system.

Surely being the last Mortal Kombat game of this generation, Midway is looking to blow out Armageddon for the Xbox and PS2. We expect to get our hands on it very shortly.
