Westwood Studios held an event last week to announce Red Alert 2, the latest game in its best-selling Command and Conquer series, and GamePro was on-hand to witness the unveiling of this long-awaited sequel.
Taking place in an alternate reality near-future, Red Alert 2 follows the rise of the insane General Romanov, leader of the World Socialist Alliance, as he attempts to invade the United States through a combination of military strength and psychic warfare. Battles occur in foreign countries, including Egypt, Germany, and France, as well as in US cities such as Chicago, New York, and Washington DC. Plenty of new infantry have been added for the sequel, including the Soviet Terror Drone, a spider-like robot that can infiltrate and destroy enemy vehicles (effectively preventing the dreaded tank rush) and Yuri, who can take over enemy units through mind-control. The Americans, meanwhile, have a Weather Control Device, which can create a lightning storm to take out Soviet encampments. Look for Red Alert 2 when it invades stores this fall.
