Midnight Club developer brings Table Tennis to the Xbox 360.

Rockstar is definitely known for producing some of the biggest gaming experiences out there, but is departing from the vast worlds of autos and pedestrians in Table Tennis for the Xbox 360. We had a quick little opp. to show off our ping pong skills in a preview version of what is easily the most realistic representation of the sport yet.

Developed by Rockstar San Diego (Midnight Club, Red Dead Revolver), the goal is to use the technological power of the Xbox 360 to make the Table Tennis experience simplistic yet addictive at the same time. Table Tennis is Rockstar's first sports simulation game, and is definitely its best looking title to date; striking realism and fluid gameplay make for an intense experience that anyone will be able to pick up and play.

The core mechanics of the game make play surprising simple, though mastering the different types of spin shots and keeping light on your feet will set the good and great players apart. Face buttons control different spin shots, and a colored trail follows the ball to designate what type of spin it has on it (i.e., side, top, or back). The shoulder buttons are used for focus (slow-motion power shots) and drop shots.

Table Tennis features a total of 11 characters (7 male, 4 female) from several different countries including Japan, Brazil, Egypt, and the US, and each player has four attributes: spin, accuracy, speed and power. Each player has an average of 30 thousand polygons that, combined with dripping sweat and cloth physics, make for some amazing detail -- the screenshots speak for themselves.

Table Tennis will hit retail for $39.99 -- the most inexpensive Xbox 360 game yet, and will feature online tournaments via Xbox Live. Get your pong on May 22.
