Brute Force
Lucas Arts has built an entirely new engine to go with their latest Episode One PlayStation title. There are no lengthy conversations or overly tiring puzzles in this swashbuckling, Force-wielding brawler, which is appropriately titled Jedi Power Battles. Pick from five Jedi knights (Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Adi Gallia and Plo Koon) and go into battle through ten different levels loosely based on the film (anyone remember Super Star Wars for the SNES?). You can go it alone or play in two-play cooperative mode, building up your characters' Force powers and adding new attack combos depending on how well you do on each level.

It's All About The Lightsaber
The two-player fun looks like the most promising part of this game, reminiscent of classics like Double Dragon or Golden Axe, but JPB still remains firmly planted in the Star Wars universe. You'll see signature moves from the film - such as Qui-Gon reflecting blaster fire and Obi-Wan's flipping jump - but there is also a huge array of flashy combos and special moves for each of the different characters. In the preview version we saw the game was shaping up nicely, the quick flow of combat was great, and the backgrounds were sharp. Some of the character models were still a bit rough, but overall JPB seems headed for the stars.

I Will Strike You Down With Vengeance and Furious Anger ?
Star Wars fans couldn't possibly blame the game designers for the obvious favoritism shown to Mace Windu, who had the coolest set of combos and Force moves (hopefully Samuel L. Jackson will be able to live up to that in the second movie). But while you are still waiting for Episode Two to arrive in theaters, you can enjoy the raucous fun of Jedi Power Battles when it hits the PlayStation this April.
