Guilty Gear Dust Strikers

Dust Strikers brings hand-drawn 2D fighting pandemonium to the DS.

The colorful characters and detailed animations of the Guilty Gear fighting series are getting spread out. Featuring all 21 characters from Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, Dust Strikers' chaotic battles will take place across four tiers, two per screen. Poison, fire, thunder, and bomb traps litter the floors, and stages leave different bits of platform unavailable, adding a tactical element to what might've been simply a frenetic jump-fest. It's the system of outlandish combos that really makes the fighting interesting, though, especially to fans.

This latest handheld entry looks to pack a good amount of variety as well, with six different gameplay modes, and ten stylus-centered mini-games: Billiards, a balancing act, and a strange one that involves getting a yo-yo clean, among others. They're more than idle distractions, too: each can open up new move sets for the customizable Robo-Ky character. This guy alone could keep the replayability factor high.

While getting into Dust Strikers as a Guilty Gear newbie seems like it'll be no easy task, the frenzied 4-player WiFi matches should give plenty of incentive for friends to show you the ropes. Even if you're not normally a fighter fan, the artwork alone warrants a look. Levels set in Hell's Forest, the streets of London, and a Parisian theater show why hand-drawn art is so important to Guilty Gear's visual reputation. When it hits the streets, Dust Strikers should at least be worth gawking at.
